Second Grade Spelling & Reading Vocabulary List
| The words used for spelling lists are taken from the reading series
published by McGraw-Hill. Most are also used as vocabulary
words. The students learn the words by reading, spelling, and
writing. It allows the students to learn the words through usage
instead of isolating the list for memorization. There are AR tests
available for each story from the reading book. The students will take a trial test at the beginning of the week (day will be assigned by each teacher). If the student receives 100% on the trial test, the Friday test will not need to be taken. The student who does not receive 100% has several more days to prepare for the final test. At least one word will be given in dictation-style with the student writing every word in the sentence. The spelling word must be written correctly with capitalization and punctuation written correctly. Every sixth unit is a review unit. Spelling work will be completed in the book at school, but no tests will be given during review weeks.
