United States Congress Legislative Information on the Internet Examine the Congressional Record, current bills under consideration, and other legislative activities. United States General Accounting Office (GAO) The GAO is the investigative arm of the United States Congress and prepares reports to help inform congressmen on specific issues. You may search the database of online GAO reports, or by clicking on the "list of databases" link you can also gain access to the Congressional Record and other congressional and governmental documents that are available and searchable. In its final form the site will include records from the Continental Congress through the 42nd Congress, some 355,000 pages in all. Great Speeches A multimedia site that presents some of the most famous speeches of the 20th century in real audio format. Foundation for the United States Consititution This web site, an extension of Constitution magazine, aims to encourage appreciation of the principles and history of the United States Constitution. United States History Document Archive National Civil Rights Museum The site features an interactive tour of the museum featuring the major events in the struggle of black Americans to gain equal rights from the colonial period through the modern day. Statistical Abstract of the United States Department of Labor Statistics & Data This site gives you access to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Mining Safety and Health Administration, or the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Bureau of Public Debt Provides an up-to-date calculation of the national debt and other information on the national debt. State of Illinois Offers links to all parts of the state government in Illinois. Illinois Compiled Statutes The Illinois Compiled Statutes (ILCS) are a cumulative organization of Public Acts into a coherent framework. Most, but not all, Public Acts are incorporated into the Illinois Compiled Statutes. Some Public Acts and portions of Public Acts, such as those authorizing land conveyances or making appropriations, are not included in the Illinois Compiled Statutes. The version of the Illinois Compiled Statutes on this site incorporates additions and changes through Public Act 91-646. More recent Public Acts have not yet been incorporated into the version of the Illinois Compiled Statutes shown on this site. Those Public Acts will be incorporated at a later time. Public Acts Public Acts are bills that have become law. Public Acts of the 90th General Assembly and the 91st General Assembly are available on this site. Public Acts are added to this site soon after they become law. Internet Archive of Texts and Documents This site features links to mostly primary sources on the Renaissance and the Reformation The Catholic Encyclopedia: The Reformation Martin Luther: A Biography This is an interesting site because it also includes MIDI files of his music. Age of Exploration 1492: An Ongoing Voyage An exhibit by the Library of Congress and divided into six main areas that stresses Mediterranean and New World societies. Discoverers Web This site puts in one spot all kinds of information about voyages of discovery and exploration and includes every conceivable country. European Monarchies Elizabethian England This site is an excellent example of a student web project, containing sections on Shakespeare, art and architecture, everyday life, and historical figures and events. The Glorious Revoltuion of 1688 18th Century Studies Collection of archives of 18th century novels, plays, treatises, and political writings. Works by Thomas Paine, Montesque, Benjamin Franklin, and French Revolution works are included. Nonetheless, they do provide web- surfers with some interesting views and information on the Cold War and the National Security State.
