Capital Area Education Fair on Oct 2:  Juniors will be attending the Capital Area Education Fair on October 2. Students will report to 1st hour and will be dismissed by intercom at 8:45 am to board buses. We plan to attend the fair for an hour. I would expect us to be back by 10:45 am (approximate).

WILLIAMSVILLE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION – QUARTER AUCTIONS

The Williamsville Community Foundation is looking for volunteers to assist with their Quarter Auctions to benefit different charities.  They need help on the second Thursday of every month from 5:15-8:15 p.m. to work concessions during the auctions and on the Wednesday before the auctions from 5:00-6:00 p.m. to set up chairs and tables.  The Quarter Auctions will take place at the Williamsville Community Center. 

 

LINCOLN MEMORIAL GARDENS – INDIAN SUMMER FESTIVAL

Lincoln Memorial Gardens is looking for volunteers to assist with their Indian Summer Festival on Saturday, October 12, 2019, and Sunday, October 13, 2019.  Volunteers will most likely be helping in the Children’s Area working with the crafts and games, and shifts are 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. both days.  Volunteers will need to check in at the volunteer table at the front gate.

 

ABRAHAM LINCOLN PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY AND MUSEUM –

SPOOKTACULAR EVENING WITH ABE

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield is looking for volunteers to assist with their Spooktacular Evening with Abe.  Volunteers will be needed to operate family-friendly games on Saturday, October 20, 2018, from 5:45 to 8:15 p.m.  Volunteers will have two options the night of the Spooktacular!  They can help with the games and crafts, or they can be “scarers” throughout the museum.  Volunteers wanting to be “scarers” need to dress in all black.  The museum will have costumes and make-up to use for the night of the Spooktacular!  The “scarers” will be the spooky people who scare the visitors as they walk through the museum.  Some children walk with blinking necklaces, which indicates they do not want to be scared.

 

SHERMAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND WILLIAMSVILLE MIDDLE SCHOOL – SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR

The Sherman Elementary School and the Williamsville Middle School has hosted a Scholastic Book Fair that has corresponded with Parent-Teacher Conferences in November each year.  Exact details are not available at this time.  Last year, volunteers were requested to work in two-hour shifts.  This year, the dates of the Parent-Teacher Conferences are Thursday, November 7, 2019, and Friday, November 8, 2019.  Exact details should be available around the end of the first quarter in October.

 

SHERMAN HOLIDAY WONDERLAND

Volunteers are being sought to assist with the Sherman Holiday Wonderland, which will be hosted at the Sherman Athletic Club on Sunday, November 24, 2019.  Proceeds from the Sherman Holiday Wonderland are put toward the Sharon Miller Scholarship.  Volunteers will be needed on Sunday, November 24, 2019, helping set-up for the event from 6:00 to 7:00 a.m., helping vendors unload from 7:00 to 10:00 a.m., and working the Welcome Table from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m.

 

ABRAHAM LINCOLN PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY AND MUSEUM – FUN FROSTY FRIDAY

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield is looking for volunteers to assist with their Fun Frosty Friday.  Volunteers will be needed to operate family-friendly games, crafts, and a life-size Candyland adventure on Friday, November 29, 2019, from 9:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. 

 

WILLIAMSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL — CLEAN-UP FOR BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAMES

The custodians at Williamsville High School are looking for assistance cleaning out the bleachers after the home boys’ basketball games on Tuesday, December 17; Friday, December 20; Monday, December 23; Friday, January 10; Friday, January 24; Friday, January 31; Tuesday, February 4; Friday, February 7; and Tuesday, February 18.  They are looking for a couple of volunteers after each game, and while you will probably be needed for less than an hour, you will earn an hour of community service.

 

WILLIAMSVILLE’S HEALTHY KIDS’ RUNNING SERIES

Williamsville’s Healthy Kids’ Running Series is looking for volunteers leading stretches, directing runners along the courses, helping keep kids in order at the finish line, etc.  The races take place at the Williamsville Park on Sunday afternoons September 29 and October 6 and 20.  Volunteers would need to be at the park from about 4:00 to 5:30 p.m.  There will also be a spring series, but exact details are not available at this time.  Exact details should be available in January.

 

WILLIAMSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL — WINTER CHOIR CONCERT

The Vocal Music Boosters need volunteers at the Winter Choir Concert on Wednesday, December 4, 2019.  Volunteers will need to work from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and will be plating the cheesecake during the choir concert and serving it immediately after the concert.

 

ST. JOHN VIANNEY – FALL FESTIVAL

St. John Vianney in Sherman is organizing their Fall Festival, which will be held Sunday, October 6, 2019, at St. John Vianney from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.  Volunteers are specifically being sought for a variety of activities:  assisting with face painting, helping with a pumpkin painting station, helping run games or the bounce houses for kids, helping in the activity center with food service, selling 50/50 tickets, or dressing in a costume of their choice to walk around the event and assisting as needed.

 

WILLIAMSVILLE C.U.S.D. #15 — CANVASSING FOR REFERENDUM

Williamsville C.U.S.D. #15 is looking for volunteers to help canvassing the neighborhoods of Williamsville and Sherman to help promote the potential referendum being considered to make improvements to the district facilities.  Volunteers will be needed on Saturday, October 5, 2019, from 8:30-10:30 a.m.

 

 ILLINOIS NATIONAL GUARD – TRUNK OR TREAT

The Illinois National Guard in Springfield is looking for volunteers to assist with their Trunk or Treat event that they are co-hosting at Camp Lincoln.  Volunteers will be needed on Saturday, October 19, 2019, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. helping with the children’s activities.  The event will take place at Camp Lincoln, Bldg. 10 located at 1301 N. MacArthur Blvd. in Springfield.
