·         Immediate Pharmacy Technician Position Open at Schnucks on Sangamon. Looking for 1-2 students with a passion to learn and good communication skills to work 4pm-8pm during the week, some weekends, and more on breaks. Open to students planning to pursue a career in pharmacy or other healthcare related field. Please see Mrs. Chladny if interested. 

 

Tryouts for the WHS Scholastic Bowl team will be held on Tuesday, September 24th and Wednesday, September 25th from 3:30-4:00pm in the library. Any freshmen or new player to the program should attend one of these dates. If you cannot make either date, please contact Mr. Trimpe to make other arrangements.

Sports Boosters Homecoming Parade Info: The parade will be held on Sunday, September 29th.  The lineup will start at 2:30 and the parade will begin at 4:00.  We will follow the same route as previous years, leaving from the High School and ending behind WJHS.  The theme of the parade is Blast From the Past. 

Timberline Billing Service Scholarship Award: This scholarship is designed exclusively for students with active IEP's or have had an IEP during their Secondary education. The annual TBS Scholarship Award gives $2,000 to five students to pursue their educational goals. Applications must be received by January 15th, 2020. Applications are available from the Guidance Department.  

Registration is open for the 2019 PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test). The PSAT/NMSQT measures what students have learned in high school and what students need to succeed in college and career training. It is also the qualifying test for entry to the National Merit Scholarship Program.  The test date for 2019 is Wednesday, October 16 during the school day. The fee is $17. Juniors from income-eligible families may be able to get a fee waiver. Please see Mrs. Chladny if you think your family may qualify.  Please come to the Guidance Office on or before September 13 to register for the PSAT/NMSQT. Please bring your fee payment when you register. A test is not guaranteed to you until payment is received. You will receive a Student Guide with more information, test-taking advice/tips and an official practice test when you register.  Please see Mrs. Chladny with any questions.

Engineering Explorers Post 6 (EEP) First Nighter event:  For those new to our program, the First Nighter gives parents and students a chance to meet Leaders, ask questions about our group and hear about the events we plan to offer this year. The program gives students practical, "hands on" experience in the engineering field and an opportunity to spend time with and be mentored by practicing engineers and technicians.   First Nighter Event:  Wednesday, September 18th from 6 to 8 pm at the Hanley Building Cafeteria, 2300 South Dirksen Parkway, Springfield

WILLIAMSVILLE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION – QUARTER AUCTIONS

The Williamsville Community Foundation is looking for volunteers to assist with their Quarter Auctions to benefit different charities.  They need help on the second Thursday of every month from 5:15-8:15 p.m. to work concessions during the auctions and on the Wednesday before the auctions from 5:00-6:00 p.m. to set up chairs and tables.  The Quarter Auctions will take place at the Williamsville Community Center. 

 

SPORTS BOOSTERS — HOMECOMING PARADE

The Sports Boosters are looking for some volunteers to help direct students once they are dropped off for the Homecoming Parade on Sunday, September 29, 2019.  Volunteers will need to report at 2:30 p.m. and will be needed until the parade begins at 4:00 p.m.  

 

LINCOLN MEMORIAL GARDENS – INDIAN SUMMER FESTIVAL

Lincoln Memorial Gardens is looking for volunteers to assist with their Indian Summer Festival on Saturday, October 12, 2019, and Sunday, October 13, 2019.  Volunteers will most likely be helping in the Children’s Area working with the crafts and games, and shifts are 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. both days.  Volunteers will need to check in at the volunteer table at the front gate.

 

ABRAHAM LINCOLN PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY AND MUSEUM –

SPOOKTACULAR EVENING WITH ABE

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield is looking for volunteers to assist with their Spooktacular Evening with Abe.  Volunteers will be needed to operate family-friendly games on Saturday, October 20, 2018, from 5:45 to 8:15 p.m.  Volunteers will have two options the night of the Spooktacular!  They can help with the games and crafts, or they can be “scarers” throughout the museum.  Volunteers wanting to be “scarers” need to dress in all black.  The museum will have costumes and make-up to use for the night of the Spooktacular!  The “scarers” will be the spooky people who scare the visitors as they walk through the museum.  Some children walk with blinking necklaces, which indicates they do not want to be scared.

 

SHERMAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND WILLIAMSVILLE MIDDLE SCHOOL – SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR

The Sherman Elementary School and the Williamsville Middle School has hosted a Scholastic Book Fair that has corresponded with Parent-Teacher Conferences in November each year.  Exact details are not available at this time.  Last year, volunteers were requested to work in two-hour shifts.  This year, the dates of the Parent-Teacher Conferences are Thursday, November 7, 2019, and Friday, November 8, 2019.  Exact details should be available around the end of the first quarter in October.

 

SHERMAN HOLIDAY WONDERLAND

Volunteers are being sought to assist with the Sherman Holiday Wonderland, which will be hosted at the Sherman Athletic Club on Sunday, November 24, 2019.  Proceeds from the Sherman Holiday Wonderland are put toward the Sharon Miller Scholarship.  Volunteers will be needed on Sunday, November 24, 2019, helping set-up for the event from 6:00 to 7:00 a.m., helping vendors unload from 7:00 to 10:00 a.m., and working the Welcome Table from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m.

 

ABRAHAM LINCOLN PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY AND MUSEUM – FUN FROSTY FRIDAY

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield is looking for volunteers to assist with their Fun Frosty Friday.  Volunteers will be needed to operate family-friendly games, crafts, and a life-size Candyland adventure on Friday, November 29, 2019, from 9:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. 

 

WILLIAMSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL — CLEAN-UP FOR BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAMES

The custodians at Williamsville High School are looking for assistance cleaning out the bleachers after the home boys’ basketball games on Tuesday, December 17; Friday, December 20; Monday, December 23; Friday, January 10; Friday, January 24; Friday, January 31; Tuesday, February 4; Friday, February 7; and Tuesday, February 18.  They are looking for a couple of volunteers after each game, and while you will probably be needed for less than an hour, you will earn an hour of community service.

 

WILLIAMSVILLE’S HEALTHY KIDS’ RUNNING SERIES

Williamsville’s Healthy Kids’ Running Series is looking for volunteers leading stretches, directing runners along the courses, helping keep kids in order at the finish line, etc.  The races take place at the Williamsville Park on Sunday afternoons September 8, 22, and 29, and October 6 and 20.  Volunteers would need to be at the park from about 4:00 to 5:30 p.m.  There will also be a spring series, but exact details are not available at this time.  Exact details should be available in January.

 

SHERMAN AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE – SHERMAN FALL FESTIVAL

The Sherman Area Chamber of Commerce is organizing the Sherman Fall Festival this year.  The Sherman Fall Festival will be held Sunday, September 22, 2019, at the Village.  There will be amusement rides, food vendors, craft vendors, concerts, kids’ activities, and bands.  Volunteers’ are specifically being sought to help with the kids’ activities.

 

SHERMAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL – BACK-TO-SCHOOL BIKE RODEO

The Sherman Elementary School is looking for volunteers to assist with their back-to-school bike rodeo on Wednesday, September 18, 2019.  Volunteers will be needed from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and will be checking students in and assisting the Sherman Police Department with the safety course.

 

ST. JOHN VIANNEY – FALL FESTIVAL

St. John Vianney in Sherman is organizing their Fall Festival this year.  The Fall Festival will be held Sunday, October 6, 2019, at St. John Vianney.  Volunteers’ are specifically being sought to dress in a costume of their choice and walk around the event and assist as needed.

 

WILLIAMSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL — WINTER CHOIR CONCERT

The Vocal Music Boosters need volunteers at the Winter Choir Concert on Wednesday, December 4, 2019.  Volunteers will need to work from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and will be plating the cheesecake during the choir concert and serving it immediately after the concert.
