Students:  As we enter warmer weather, please keep in mind our school dress code rules:

·         Clothing with holes, rips, and tears that expose bare skin shall not be worn at school.

·         Bare shoulders, bare backs, and bare midriffs are unacceptable.  Spaghetti (thin) straps, tank tops, or clothes that expose undergarments are not permitted.

·         The length of shorts or skirts shall be modest and appropriate.

Attention Freshman: You will not be able to access the social science wing (freshman hallway) during testing on April 9 until after 1pm. Please take any belongings you may need and your lunch if you bring your lunch to your testing room. NO ACCESS to the freshman hallway between 8:15am-1:30pm due to SAT School Day testing. Thank you for your cooperation. 

 

Freshmen & Sophomores:  Attendance is required to attend school all day on April 9.   

WHS will conduct the PSAT for all freshmen and sophomores. 

 

All juniors will take the SAT exam on April 9 as well and will be released after testing. 

 

Seniors are not required to attend school on April 9 and are encouraged to use this day for college visits.

Tickets for After-Prom will be sold during lunches this week.  Tickets are $20 and include a t-shirt, admission, unlimited food and drink, activities, and lots of prizes and giveaways. Signed waivers MUST be turned in to attend.  Pick up your waivers in the office this week and turn them in when you purchase your ticket during lunch shifts.

Attention Senior girls: Application deadline for the Barbara Greening scholarship has been extended to end of school day on April 10. Two awards will be given to senior girls who played basketball and/or softball their senior year. Apply today! 

 

Congratulations to Konrad Powell – March Student of the Month!

 

Check the guidance webpage for the Sangamon County Farm Bureau Foundation scholarship program--the scholarships are open to graduating seniors of Sangamon County Farm Bureau members. The Foundation is offering five $1,250.00 scholarships for the fall 2019. 

 

The WHS Vocal Music Boosters Scholarship is now available to all WHS seniors that participated in Madrigals, Vocal Jazz, or Choir during their high school years.  The scholarship is for $500 and will be rewarded to a graduating senior who plans to continue to be involved in vocal music in college.  Students must complete an application (available in the Guidance Department) and complete a 500 word essay.  The deadline to submit your application is April 30, 2019.  

 

Growing Our Future Scholarship $1,000 --scholarship criteria on guidance webpage or by visiting www.prairielandsfs.com. Deadline to apply is April 20, 2019. 

 

Kerber, Eck & Braeckel will host High School Preview Night on Wednesday,  May 1st from 6:30pm-8:00pm.  High School Preview Night is an opportunity for juniors and seniors to learn about the accounting field, CPA exam, possible career paths and to network with local professionals.  More information will be available as the date gets closer. 

 

Free Swing Dance Lessons: Before the 8th Annual Williamsville Jazz Dinner, swing dance lessons will be offered in the WJHS Athletic Gym from 6:30-7:30 pm on the following dates:

·         Monday, April 22nd

·         Monday, April 29th

The lessons are free. All students and parents are welcome to join in the fun!

WILLIAMSVILLE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION – QUARTER AUCTIONS

The Williamsville Community Foundation is looking for volunteers to assist with their Quarter Auctions to benefit different charities.  They need help on the second Thursday of every month from 5:30-8:30 p.m. to work concessions during the auctions and on the Wednesday before the auctions from 5:00-6:00 p.m. to set up chairs and tables.  The Quarter Auctions will take place at the Williamsville Community Center.

   

LINCOLN LAND DOWN SYNDROME SOCIETY – CHILD CARE AT MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS

Volunteers are being sought by the Lincoln Land Down Syndrome Society to assist with childcare during membership meetings.  Upcoming meeting dates are Thursday, April 18, 2019; Thursday, June 13, 2019; and Thursday, July 11, 2019.  Meetings are held at Erin’s Pavilion at Edwin Watts Southwind Park.  Volunteers would need to arrive by 5:45 p.m. and stay until approximately 7:30 p.m.  Four volunteers are needed for each meeting.

  

ABRAHAM LINCOLN PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY AND MUSEUM – HISTORY DETECTIVE

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield is looking for volunteers to assist as a History Detective.  Volunteers will be needed to facilitate a children’s scavenger hunt in the museum during Winter Break in December and Summer Break in June and July.  Volunteers will need to work a four-hour shift, either from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. or from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., on any day of their choice during those timeframes.

 

WILLIAMSVILLE’S HEALTHY KIDS’ RUNNING SERIES

Williamsville’s Healthy Kids’ Running Series is looking for volunteers leading stretches, directing runners along the courses, helping keep kids in order at the finish line, etc.  The races take place at the Williamsville Park on Sunday afternoons April 7, 14, 28, and May 5.  Volunteers would need to be at the park from about 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. 

  

WILLIAMSVILLE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION — WILLIAMSVILLE EASTER EGG HUNT

The Williamsville Community Foundation is hosting an Easter Egg Hunt at the Williamsville Park on Saturday, April 13, 2019, from TBD to TBD.  They are looking for volunteers to help with refreshments, to organize the kids for the egg hunt, and to pass out toys on the day of the event, and they also need volunteers on Tuesday, April 9, 2019, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. to stuff the eggs and do other work in preparation for the event. 

 

SHERMAN AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE — SHERMAN EASTER EGG HUNT

The Sherman Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting the Sherman Easter Egg Hunt at Sherman Elementary School on Saturday, April 20, 2019, from 9:00-11:30 a.m.  They are looking for volunteers to help set up, supervise the organized activities, and clean up after the event.

 

SHERMAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL – SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR

Sherman Elementary School is hosting a spring Scholastic Book Fair, and they need volunteers for various functions on the following dates:  Friday, April 26 – TBD and Thursday, May 2 - TBD.

 

ILLINOIS NATIONAL GUARD – ANNUAL SPRING EVENT

The Child & Youth Program Coordinator with the Illinois National Guard in Springfield is looking for volunteers to assist with their Annual Spring Event that they are co-hosting at Camp Lincoln.  Volunteers will be needed on Saturday, April 13, 2019, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. helping with the children’s activities.  The event will take place at Camp Lincoln, Bldg. 10 located at 1301 N. MacArthur Blvd. in Springfield.
