SAT Prep Classes will be held at Williamsville High School February 20, 23, & 27 and March 9. Classes are open to all students. Interested students should pick up a registration form in the Guidance Office. The cost is $50. Deadline to register is February 1. 

 

Seniors: Please make sure to check the guidance scholarship page--there are a lot of scholarships being added with March 1 deadlines. Apply today!! 

 

Illinois Federation of Business Women’s Clubs (IFBW) will be awarding six $2,000 scholarships to deserving young women in Illinois. High school seniors and returning college students are eligible to apply.   Scholarship applications are due March 1, 2019. More info available on the guidance webpage. 

 

2019 CFLL Service Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to a student who is an extraordinary example of service to others and the community. Each high school principal in Sangamon County, Illinois may nominate one student to complete the application. Please notify Mr. Furlow or Mrs. Chladny if you would like to be considered for the nomination no later than Feb 15, 2019. Please provide a resume with your service activities.  You must have a 3.5 non-weighted gpa to be considered for nomination. No late candidates will be reviewed for nomination. 

 

Juniors with a 3.5 GPA and 25 ACT:  Commonwealth Honors Academy will be held June 8-29, 2019.  Applications must be postmarked by March 1, 2019.  For applications, visit our website murraystate.edu/cha or call 270-809-3166.

 

Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) meets every Friday morning at 7:26am in Mr. O'Connor's room. Join us for food, fun, and a Bible study. Anyone is welcome

 

FCCLA/FFA Winter Formal will be held Saturday, February 23rd from 8-11 pm.  Tickets will be on sale for $5 each during both lunches from 2/18 - 2/22.  You must have pre-approved guest form completed to purchase a ticket for a student who does not attend WHS.  If you do not purchase a ticket in advance they will be available at the door the night of the dance for $20 each.

PORTA Pool will offer the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training course on Saturday, March 9; Sunday, March 10; Saturday, March 16; and Sunday, March 17. Classes will begin at 8:00 AM each day and conclude at approximately 4:00 PM. Participants must attend all sessions. 2019 SAT Prep Classes:  SAT prep classes will be held on Wednesday, February 20 from 5-8pm, Saturday, February 23 from 9am-noon, Wednesday, February 27 from 5-8pm, and Saturday, March 9 from 9am-noon.  Pre-registration is required along with a $50 registration fee (checks should be made payable to WHS).  All juniors will receive registration materials in class and can return them to the Guidance Department along with payment.  Additional registration forms are available in the Guidance Department and on our website available for download.  Signing up for the SAT prep classes is optional.  SAT prep classes are open to ALL students.  Deadline for sign up is February 8.  The SAT will be given to all juniors at the high school on April 9, 2019.  

 

Polly Roesch Vocal Music Scholarship applications are available on the guidance webpage or by seeing Mr. Hendrickson. The deadline has been extended to April 1. 

 

Are you a high school senior or a college student planning to study post-secondary agriculture in Illinois, or a graduate student in agriculture?  4 scholarships for females studying agriculture are offered by the Illinois Agri-Women. Sports Boosters Scholarship applications available on guidance webpage and in the guidance office -  Deadline to apply is April 1.

 

Ila M. Skelton 2019 Scholarship applications are available on the guidance scholarship website. The purpose of the Skelton Scholarship is to enable students from Sangamon County who need financial assistance, to attend an accredited college, junior college or professional school or specialized vocational training program. This scholarship is open to current high school students and college students.  This is an annual award and will be paid directly to the recipient’s school.  Applications are due by March 1, 2019.

 

Northern Illinois University is extending the merit scholarship deadline to next Friday, Feb. 8th. This means that any student that applies to NIU and sends their official transcripts and test scores by this new deadline will still be considered for our merit based financial awards. NIU has outstanding programs in Engineering, Physical Therapy, Education, Nursing, Visual and Performing Arts, along with having one of the top Business programs in the country. Fee waivers for the application are available for all students who apply between now and Feb 8! Please see Mrs. Chladny if interested. 

 

Quest Bridge College Prep Scholars Program is looking for high-achieving high school juniors from low-income backgrounds to apply for the College Prep Scholars Program. The College Prep Scholars Program helps prepare outstanding juniors for admission to the nation's best colleges. Awards may include: full scholarships to summer programs, funding for laptops, campus visits, or standardized test fees, feedback on college essays and more! Juniors can find out if they are eligible and apply for free at: www.questbridge.org. Deadline to apply March 20, 2019. 

 

Williamsville Works – Career Open House – February 26 – 6:30-8:00pm – All attendees will be entered into a drawing to win a $25 gift card from Caseys.  Over ten participating organizations!  Tips on interview skills will be given from 7-7:30pm.

WILLIAMSVILLE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION – QUARTER AUCTIONS

The Williamsville Community Foundation is looking for volunteers to assist with their Quarter Auctions to benefit different charities.  They need help on the second Thursday of every month from 5:30-8:30 p.m. to work concessions during the auctions and on the Wednesday before the auctions from 5:00-6:00 p.m. to set up chairs and tables.  The Quarter Auctions will take place at the Williamsville Community Center.

   

LINCOLN LAND DOWN SYNDROME SOCIETY – CHILD CARE AT MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS

Volunteers are being sought by the Lincoln Land Down Syndrome Society to assist with childcare during membership meetings.  Upcoming meeting dates are Thursday, March 14, 2019; Thursday, April 18, 2019; Thursday, June 13, 2019; and Thursday, July 11, 2019.  Meetings are held at Erin’s Pavilion at Edwin Watts Southwind Park.  Volunteers would need to arrive by 5:45 p.m. and stay until approximately 7:30 p.m.  Four volunteers are needed for each meeting.

  

WILLIAMSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL — CLEAN-UP FOR BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAMES

The custodians at Williamsville High School are looking for assistance cleaning out the bleachers after the home boys’ basketball games on Friday, February 15; Monday, February 18 (Regionals); Tuesday, February 19 (Regionals); and Friday, February 22 (Regionals).  They are looking for a couple of volunteers per game, and while you will probably be needed for less than an hour, you will earn an hour of community service. 

 

ABRAHAM LINCOLN PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY AND MUSEUM – HISTORY DETECTIVE

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield is looking for volunteers to assist as a History Detective.  Volunteers will be needed to facilitate a children’s scavenger hunt in the museum during Winter Break in December and Summer Break in June and July.  Volunteers will need to work a four-hour shift, either from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. or from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., on any day of their choice during those timeframes.
