2nd hour classes will be collecting donations for victims of Hurricane Harvey to be sent to Texas, but these must be brought in by tomorrow. Items needed include toothpaste, soap, shampoo, and other personal care items, diapers and wipes, baby formula, or snack items like granola bars or other ready-to-eat foods. The 2nd hour class with the most items donated will receive a treat!

Freshmen & Seniors – Class officer sign-ups are in the office!
Girls Basketball: There will be a meeting for any girl who wants
to go out for basketball in Mr. Halford's room on Wednesday Sept. 6 @ 8 AM
Boys Basketball- There will be an informational meeting for any boys
interested in trying out for basketball this year on Thursday September 7th
during the last 10 minutes of each lunch in Coach Chladnys
room.
Memorial hosts Healthcare Education Open House – Students
interested in pursuing education related to healthcare fields are invited to attend
an open house on Sept 11 from 2:00-6:00pm in the MG Nelson Family Auditorium at
Memorial Medical Center.
Memorial Health System is
excited to debut Hands-On Healthcare, a new program designed specifically for high school to college students
as well as adult learners who want to determine if a healthcare career could be
part of their future.
Stay tuned for more information on Hands-On Healthcare. First session
launches September 28, 2017 from 6 – 8 p.m. Find additional

The Williamsville High School
Athletic Department will be hosting a Spirit Night in conjunction with
Chick-fil-A on Wednesday, September 6, 2017. The event will take place from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Chick-fil-A located at
2431 Wabash Avenue in Springfield. Twenty percent of all sales during the
Spirit Night will be donated back to the athletic department.

The
date of auditions has been changed to Tuesday,
September 5th for 6PM-8:30PM
in the choir room. Everyone who wishes to audition is required to visit the
show website at https://ourtownwhs.wixsite.
After Prom Meeting on Monday, Sept 11th,
at 7pm in the WHS Cafeteria. All Junior Class Parents are encouraged to attend.
Dining for Women is an organization that helps support women who
struggle to succeed in developing countries. Mrs. Flammini has agreed to be the teacher sponsor and the group
would present no expenses to the district. The group will meet once a month
after school in Mrs. Flammini's room. All meetings
will be optional and tailored to the schedules of the individuals involved. The
group is a way to be involved with a charity without a huge time commitment.
This group is just another opportunity for our high schoolers to broaden their
horizons and be involved with the world outside of Illinois. The first
meeting will be held August 15.
Volunteers Hours Available
183rd
Fighter Wing – Family Day – For
anyone needing community service hours, the Airman and Family Readiness Program
of the 183rd Fighter Wing in Springfield are looking for volunteers to assist
with their Annual Family Day. Volunteers will be needed on Saturday,
September 9, 2017, from 10:00
a.m.-1:00 p.m. helping set up, 1:00-4:00
p.m. helping with various resource tables, food services, and contests,
and 4:00-5:00 p.m. helping clean up. The event will take place at the
Department of Natural Resources’ Conservation World located on the Illinois
State Fairgrounds in Springfield. If anyone is interested, please see Mr.
Martens.
Senior
Services of Central Illinois—Illinois Senior Olympic Games - For anyone needing community service hours,
the Senior Services of Central Illinois is looking for volunteers to help with
the Illinois Senior Olympic Games. The games will be held from Thursday,
September 14, to Sunday, September 17, and Wednesday, September 20, to Sunday,
September 24, 2017. They are looking for volunteers to help with
check-in, pass out t-shirts and medals, and to help keep score and monitor many
different events, including registration, bags, bowling, 5K and 10K runs, pickleball, softball, swimming, table tennis, track&
field, etc. Each of the events are held at
various times during the course of the Senior Olympic Games and at various
locations around Springfield. If anyone is interested, please see Mr.
Martens to get a Volunteer Form and Release Form, which need to be returned as
soon as possible and will require a parent/guardian signature on the volunteer
waiver if the student is under 18 years of age.
Friends of Sherman Library – Sherman
Library Book Sale - For anyone
needing community service hours, the Friends of the Sherman Library are looking
for volunteers to assist with setting up for their Sherman Library Book
Sale. The Friends of Sherman Library are willing to work with volunteers
to arrange a time after school during the week of August 28-September
1st. Volunteers will be helping to transfer the books for the sale from
the shed at Sherman Library to the location of the sale. If anyone is
interested, please see Mr. Martens.
Williamsville Community Foundation —
Williamsville Fall Festival – For
anyone needing community service hours, the Williamsville Community Foundation
is sponsoring the Williamsville Fall Festival on Saturday, September 9,
2017. They are looking for volunteers to help set up tents and unload
vendors from approximately 6:45-9:00 a.m., to work various two-hours
shifts throughout the event, and to help clean up from 5:00-6:00 p.m.

Williamsville Community Foundation —
Quarter Auctions – For anyone
needing community
service hours, the Williamsville Community Foundation is looking for volunteers
to assist with their Quarter Auctions to benefit different charities.
They need help on the second Wednesday of every month from 5:00-6:00 p.m. to
set up chairs at the Williamsville Community Center, and then they will need
help on the second Thursday of every month from 5:30-8:30 p.m. to work
concessions during the auctions. Please see Mr. Martens if you are
interested or have any other questions.
Sherman Area Chamber of Commerce –
Sherman Fall Festival – For anyone
needing community service hours, the
Sherman Area Chamber of Commerce is organizing the Sherman Fall Festival this
year. The Sherman Fall Festival will be held September 22-23,
2017, on the east side of The Rail Golf Course. There will be amusement
rides, food vendors, craft vendors, concerts, kids’ activities and bands.
They are specifically looking for volunteers to help with collecting the entry
fee at the Main Gate. Please see the sign-up sheet for available shifts.

Williamsville’s Healthy Kids’ Running
Series – Fall Series – For anyone
needing community service hours, the
Williamsville’s Healthy Kids’ Running Series is looking for volunteers.
They are looking for volunteers to help leading stretches, directing runners
along the courses, helping keep kids in order at the finish line, etc.
The races take place at the Williamsville Park on Sunday afternoons from
September 24 through October 22. Volunteers would need to be at the park
from about 3:00-5:00 p.m. Please see Mr. Martens if you are
interested or have any other questions.
Lincoln Memorial Gardens—Indian Summer
Festival – For anyone needing
community service hours, Lincoln Memorial Gardens is having their Indian Summer
Festival on Saturday, October 7, 2017, and Sunday, October 8, 2017.
Volunteers will most likely be helping in the Children’s Area working with the
crafts and games, and shifts are 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 4:00
p.m. both days. If anyone is interested, please see Mr. Martens.
Capitol Radio Group—Zoolie Ghoulie at Henson Robinson
Zoo – For anyone needing community
service hours, the Capitol Radio Group is sponsoring Zoolie
Ghoulie at Henson Robinson Zoo from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on
Friday, October 20, 2017, and 1:00-5:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 21 and
Sunday, October 22, 2017. Volunteers will be passing out candy in the
safe trick-or-treating event inside the zoo gates or working in the carnival
area. Volunteers are also encouraged—but not required—to dress in
costumes if they can. If anyone is interested, please see Mr. Martens.
Sherman Holiday Wonderland – Volunteers are being sought to assist with
the Sherman Holiday Wonderland, which will be hosted at the Sherman Athletic
Club on Sunday, November 19, 2017. Proceeds from the Sherman Holiday
Wonderland are put toward the Sharon Miller Scholarship. Volunteers will
be needed on Sunday, November 19, 2017, helping vendors unload from 7:00-9:00
a.m. and working the Welcome Table from 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., and additional
volunteers are needed to help set up for the event. Set up will be either
Saturday evening or early Sunday morning, but that time has not yet been

183rd Fighter Wing –
Children’s Christmas Party – For
anyone needing community service hours, the Airman and Family Readiness Program

on Sunday, December 3, 2017, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. helping with the children’s
