Sophomores:  Jostens will be at WHS to receive your class ring order on Wednesday, 9/21/16 during lunch.  Custom design your rings and bring your completed forms along with $60 deposit.

Congrats to the Williamsville Cross Country teams on their performances this weekend at the First to The Finish Invite.  The girls team finished 2nd out of 45+ Schools.  Audra Koechle, Grace Gudwien, Caroline Gwaltney, and Lexy Henrikson all medaled out of 350+ runners!  The Boys team placed 12 out of 45+ teams.


Interested in the Pharmacy major?: The 6 schools of pharmacy in Illinois in addition to St. Louis College of Pharmacy are banding together to create awareness of careers in pharmacy on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at Heartland Community College in Normal, IL. Juniors:  The Capital Area Education Fair will be held on October 5 at the fairgrounds.  Students will report to 1st hour and will be dismissed by intercom when buses arrive after their morning routes. We will be back at approximately 10:45-11:00.   Juniors must have their Computer Usage/Field Trip/Handbook form completed and turned in to be eligible.


Memorial Health System is hosting its Second Annual Healthcare Education Open House on Tuesday, September 20th from 2:00pm to 6:00pm in the Memorial Center for Learning and Innovation.  This event provides students with the opportunity to speak with representatives from several of our Academic Partners about education opportunities that are available to them. Members of Memorial’s Workforce Development and Recruitment teams will be present to answer questions and offer information on how Memorial can help those who desire to have a future career in healthcare.

Job Opportunity - The Think Center is seeking a Junior or Senior student to tutor in math and/or science ($9.00-$10.00/hr) with tutor training provided. Tutors will work anywhere from 3-10 hours per week dependent on their availability. Please see the guidance office if interested.


The Think Center is offering ACT/SAT prep courses. Please see the guidance webpage for more details.


SIUE School of Nursing will host "Explore Academic Excellence Day" on Saturday, October 1, 2016 from 8:00AM-12:00PM. Prospective students can visit the School of Nursing and the Simulated Learning Center. This program will cover all SIUE Nursing Programs as well as specialty areas of Nursing Anesthesia and Family Nurse Practitioner. Preregistration is recommended, and available at www.siue.edu/nursing. 


Community Service/Volunteer Info:


Sherman Holiday Wonderland:  Volunteers are being sought to assist with the Sherman Holiday Wonderland, which will be hosted at the Sherman Athletic Club on Sunday, November 20, 2016.  Proceeds from the Sherman Holiday Wonderland are put toward the Sharon Miller Scholarship.  Volunteers will be needed on Sunday, November 20, 2016, helping vendors unload from 7:00-9:00 a.m. and working the Welcome Table from 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., and additional volunteers are needed to help set up for the event.  Set up will be either Saturday evening or early Sunday morning, but that time has not yet been confirmed.


Williamsville Community Foundation — Quarter Auctions:  For anyone needing community service hours, the Williamsville Community Foundation is looking for volunteers to assist with their Quarter Auctions to benefit different charities.  They need help on the second Wednesday of every month from 5:00-6:00 p.m. to set up chairs at the Williamsville Community Center, and then they will need help on the second Thursday of every month from 5:30-8:30 p.m. to work concessions during the auctions.  Please see Mr. Martens if you are interested or have any other questions.


Lincoln Memorial Gardens — Indian Summer Festival:  For anyone needing community service hours, Lincoln Memorial Gardens is having their Indian Summer Festival on Saturday, October 8, 2016, and Sunday, October 9, 2016.  Volunteers will most likely be helping in the Children’s Area working with the crafts and games, and shifts are 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. both days.   If anyone is interested, please see Mr. Martens.


Capitol Radio Group — Zoolie Ghoulie at Henson Robinson Zoo:  For anyone needing community service hours, the Capitol Radio Group is sponsoring Zoolie Ghoulie at Henson Robinson Zoo from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 21, 2016, and 1:00-5:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 22 and Sunday, October 23, 2016.  Volunteers will be passing out candy in the safe trick-or-treating event inside the zoo gates or working in the carnival area.  Volunteers are also encouraged—but not required—to dress in costumes if they can.  If anyone is interested, please see Mr. Martens.


183rd Fighter Wing – Children’s Christmas Party - For anyone needing community service hours, the Airman and Family Readiness Program of the 183rd Fighter Wing in Springfield are looking for volunteers to assist with their Annual Children’s Christmas Party.  Volunteers will be needed on Sunday, December 11, 2016, from 1:00-5:00 p.m. helping with the children’s craft tables.  The event will take place at base of the 183rd Fighter Wing at 3101 J. David Jones Parkway in Springfield.


For anyone needing community service hours, the Senior Services of Central Illinois is looking for volunteers to help with the 2016 Illinois Senior Olympic Games.  The games will be held from Thursday, September 16, to Sunday, September 18, and Wednesday, September 21, to Sunday, September 25, 2016.  They are looking for volunteers to help with check-in, pass out t-shirts and medals, and to help keep score and monitor many different events, including archery, badminton, bags, basketball, bowling, casting, cycling, 5K and 10K runs, etc.  Each of the events are held at various times during the course of the Senior Olympic Games and at various locations around Springfield.  If anyone is interested, please see Mr. Martens to get a Volunteer Form and Release Form, which need to be returned as soon as possible.
