Help Support Ronald McDonald House by participating in a 5K Glow Run!  Pleasant Plains has challenged Williamsville to see who can bring more students.  The Glow Run will be May 6 from 7:00-11pm at Southwind Park.  Register on rmhc-centralillinois.org.  The deadline for early registration ($30) is this Friday.  Student Council will reimburse $5 of the entry fee to anyone who signs up!  See Kaylee Nichols or Mrs. Walsh for details!!

Cheerleading News:  There will be another tryout informational meeting held on Wednesday, April 13th at 3:30 pm in the HS cafeteria. If you cannot make this meeting but would still like the information, there will be additional tryout packets in the office. We hope to see you there! General Announcements:

 

Class Dues are collected every year by class sponsors in lieu of fundraisers.  Money collected is used to pay for the Junior Class Prom and the Senior Trip.  It is not collected in registration and should be paid directly to a class sponsor.  In order to buy a prom ticket, all class dues must be paid.

·         Freshmen –Pay $20 dues to Mr. Beard, Mr. Martens, Mrs. Whitten, or Mrs. Beard

·         Sophomores – Pay $20 dues to Mrs. Walsh

·         Juniors – Pay $25 dues to Mr. Chladny

Need a Prom Dress?  Glenwood High School has a collection of gently used prom dresses in all styles and sizes that they would like to make available to any student who is interested. Please see Mrs. Chladny if you have an interest. 

 

Lawrence Technological University is offering a $8,000 scholarship to JUNIOR students with outstanding academic achievement in Math and Science. The scholarship is only good for enrollment at Lawrence Tech. If you are interested in being nominated, please see a guidance counselor by April 10th.

The Sherman & Williamsville’s Boy Scout Troop 330 is hosting a fundraiser at the Texas Roadhouse on Thursday, April 14th from 3 to 10 pmAll you have to do is mention to your server that you are there to support Boy Scout Troop 330, dine on your favorite meal, and 10% of your total food purchases will be donated back to the Troop.  All proceeds will be used to support various camping experiences.  Thank you for your support.

 

HS Volleyball Information: HS forms and summer calendars were handed out to those high school girls interested in playing volleyball next fall.  Please check your summer schedules and return all forms and money to Coach Beard by Monday, April 25th.

 

Reminder to Seniors: Local Scholarship Application Deadlines are Approaching! The Guidance Office has had Low Numbers of Completed Applications. Don't forget to submit your completed application. Upcoming Deadlines:

 

·         The WHS Sports Boosters Outstanding Sportsmanship Scholarship is now open to senior athletes, cheerleaders, and student managers.  Applicants must have a letter of recommendation from his or her coach.  One award will be given to senior male athlete and one senior girl athlete worth $500. Award is not based on athletic ability. Applications are in the file(s) to download section and must be submitted by April 8th

·         The Williamsville Education Association (WEA) Scholarship is open to all WHS seniors.  Students must write an essay about the opportunities and experiences they have had at WHS that will benefit them in the future. Applications are in the file(s) to download section and must be submitted by April 15th

 

·         Vocal Music Boosters will again offer a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior who was involved in vocal music during their high school career and who intends to engage in some type of vocal music activity during college. This scholarship is sponsored by Nicoud. Download an application above and complete by April 15th

 

·         Williamsville Junior Football Association provides scholarships to those who have participated in the WJFL and graduate from WHS. Applicants must have good character, good citizenship, and demonstrate need for financial assistance. Due April 18th

 

Volunteer Opportunities

 

United Cerebral Palsy – Life without Limits Day Camp - The United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) offers three different and fun-filled camps for children ages 6 to 21 years old with the support of the United Way.  One camp is the Life without Limits Day Camp.  Volunteers are paired with a child who has a disability and accompany that child throughout the day at the camp.  As the campers renew friendships, participate in craft activities, utilize the UCP computer lab and go into the community on field trips, the volunteer is a constant companion for the camper.  Field trips will be educational and recreational, including visits to historical sites, behind the scenes tours of their favorite stores, and bowling.  A volunteer can sign up for just one week, certain days, or all summer.  The Life without Limits Camp meets at the UCP center for students 6 to 21 years old who have any type of disability.  Camp runs Monday thru Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. starting on June 20 and ending on August 5. United Cerebral Palsy – Overnight Camp - The United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) offers three different and fun-filled camps for children ages 6 to 21 years old with the support of the United Way.  One camp is the Overnight Camp.  Volunteers are paired one-on-one with a camper with a disability.  The camp is a unique social opportunity for campers and attendees to enjoy crafts, swimming, interacting with special guests, and meeting new friends.  The volunteer “Buddy” is a constant companion throughout camp for all activities.  This three day, two-night camp is the only one of its kind in central Illinois.  The UCP Overnight Camp is held in two sessions, one for campers 6-13 years old on Monday, June 6, starting at 8:00 a.m., thru Wednesday, June 8, ending at 11:00 a.m.  The other camp is for campers 14-21 years old on Wednesday, June 8, starting at 6:00 p.m., thru Friday, June 10, ending at 4:00 p.m.  Both camps will be held at the Springfield Christian Assembly Campground.  Volunteers can sign up for one or both sessions of camp.  If you have any questions, please see Mr. Martens.

 

Williamsville Community Foundation — Quarter Auctions - For anyone needing community service hours, the Williamsville Community Foundation is looking for volunteers to assist with their Quarter Auctions to benefit different charities.  They need help on the second Wednesday of every month from 5:00-6:00 p.m. to set up chairs at the Williamsville Community Center, and then they will need help on the second Thursday of every month from 6:30-9:30 p.m. to work concessions during the auctions.  Please see Mr. Martens if you are interested or have any other questions.
