Homecoming Dance  Tickets will be on sale Today – Thursday at lunch.  The cost is $10 per person.  If you forget to buy a ticket on Monday-Thursday, tickets will be sold on Friday, October 3 from Mrs. Walsh, the cost is $20 per person.  Tickets can be purchased at the dance for $25 per person.

 

S.A.V.E. Club members please pick up your shirts and letters. We will wear them in the parade Wednesday.

S.A.V.E. members participating in the parade meet Mrs. Lorton at 5pm in the student parking lot to line up for the parade. If you want to hand out candy please bring a bag to share.

6:00 PM 2014 WHS Homecoming Parade will be held on Wednesday October 1, 2014.  Line up will start at 5:00pm.  Floats, cheerleaders, court and JFL and other teams with transportation will line up in the Student Lot(south end lot) and band, girls scouts/boy scouts, walkers, Grand Marshall will line up in the Teacher's lot (north end).

Scholastic Bowl Varsity Team Only:  If you are planning on attending the October 18th Tournament, please sign up outside of Mr. Trimpe's room by October 3rd. The meet will take place all morning and most of the afternoon. We will most likely arrive home around 5pm from Bloomington.  Practice will start the week of October 6th. A practice schedule will be posted with the sign-up sheet.

General Announcements:

 

Lincoln Community High School's Annual College Night will be held October 16 from 6:00pm-7:30pm. This event is open to all high school students and their parents. The evening begins with a financial aid presentation followed by a college fair featuring over 35 college representatives and military recruiters. This is a great opportunity to gain valuable information in one location regarding the next step after high school.

Big Brothers Big Sisters high school mentoring program is looking for volunteers.  Mentors meet with their little sister or brother for just one hour, once per week at the little’s school.  Please see Kaylee Nichols for more information.

Volunteer Opportunities –

Capitol Radio Group—Zoolie Ghoulie at Henson Robinson Zoo

For anyone needing community service hours, the Capitol Radio Group is sponsoring Zoolie Ghoulie at Henson Robinson Zoo from 1:00-5:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 18 and 25, 2014, and Sunday, October 19 and 26, 2014.  Volunteers will be passing out candy in the safe trick-or-treating event inside the zoo gates or working in the carnival area.  Volunteers are also encouraged—but not required—to dress in costumes if they can.  If anyone is interested, please see Mr. Martens.

 

Boys Basketball:  Open gyms for boys basketball will start on Tuesday October 7th from 3:30-5:00 p.m.  Please make sure you have an updated physical and insurance waiver turned in prior to participating!

 

 

Parent-Teacher Conferences: WHS is once again using Sign-Up Genius for parents to reserve Parent-Teacher Conferences with each of their student’s teachers.  Ten minute slots are available on the following days:

 

·                     November 6th:  12:30-3:30 PM, 4:00-8:00 PM

·                     November 7th : 8:00 – 11:00 AM

SIUE would like to invite prospective students to the School of Nursing’s “Explore Nursing Academic Excellence Day”.  This event will highlight a variety of nursing programs at the college including: Baccalaureate, Accelerated BN to BS, Master’s DNP, and Post-Master’s DNP. Faculty will highlight specialty areas such as pediatrics, flight nursing, nurse anesthesia, etc. A campus tour will also be offered.  Pre-registration for the event is online at:
