General Announcements:

 

Lincoln Community High School's Annual College Night will be held October 16 from 6:00pm-7:30pm. This event is open to all high school students and their parents. The evening begins with a financial aid presentation followed by a college fair featuring over 35 college representatives and military recruiters.

Big Brothers Big Sisters high school mentoring program is looking for volunteers:  Mentors meet with their little sister or brother for just one hour, once per week at the little’s school.  Please see Kaylee Nichols for more information.

Students who register by December 31st and use a coupon code provided by their guidance counselor will receive $50 off! 2014 WHS Homecoming Parade will be held on Wednesday October 1, 2014.  Parade step-off time will be 6:00pm.  Line up will start at 5:00pm.  Floats, cheerleaders, court and JFL and other teams with transportation will line up in the Student Lot(south end lot) and band, girls scouts/boy scouts, walkers, Grand Marshall will line up in the Teacher's lot(north end).  Please call or email Vicki Karras(654-1184 or composerkids@msn.com) to sign up your group and receive more information.  Please sign up by Monday September 29.Thanks to Sports Boosters for organizing this great event!

Scholastic Bowl Varsity Team Only

If you are planning on attending the October 18th Tournament, please sign up outside of Mr. Trimpe's room by October 3rd. The meet will take place all morning and most of the afternoon. We will most likely arrive home around 5pm from Bloomington.

 

Practice will start the week of October 6th. A practice schedule will be posted with the sign-up sheet.  

 

Volunteer Opportunities –

Capitol Radio Group—Zoolie Ghoulie at Henson Robinson Zoo

For anyone needing community service hours, the Capitol Radio Group is sponsoring Zoolie Ghoulie at Henson Robinson Zoo from 1:00-5:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 18 and 25, 2014, and Sunday, October 19 and 26, 2014.  Volunteers will be passing out candy in the safe trick-or-treating event inside the zoo gates or working in the carnival area.  Volunteers are also encouraged—but not required—to dress in costumes if they can.  If anyone is interested, please see Mr. Martens.

 

Mrs. Walsh desperately needs someone to tape boys' golf at The Rail!  There are two home meets left.

 

Boys Basketball:  Open gyms for boys basketball will start on Tuesday October 7th from 3:30-5:00 p.m.  Please make sure you have an updated physical and insurance waiver turned in prior to participating!

 

Parent-Teacher Conferences: WHS is once again using Sign-Up Genius for parents to reserve Parent-Teacher Conferences with each of their student’s teachers.  Ten minute slots are available on the following days:

 

·         November 6th:  12:30-3:30 PM, 4:00-8:00 PM

·         November 7th : 8:00 – 11:00 AM

Sign up at lunch during homecoming week to compete in the Class Olympics. These games will be played after the parade and pep rally on Wednesday night.

Homecoming Dance  Tickets will be on sale Monday – Thursday (September 29-October 2) at lunch.  The cost is $10 per person.  If you forget to buy a ticket on Monday-Thursday, tickets will be sold on Friday, October 3 from Mrs Walsh, the cost is $20 per person.  Tickets can be purchased at the dance for $25 per person.

 

The Homecoming dance will take place on Saturday, October 4, in the back gym.  Doors will open at 8:00 p.m.
