Last Day – Yearbook Pre-Sale for the 2015 yearbook.  This sale will take place during lunch).  Students who purchase their book during this time will get their name embossed on the cover for free.  Cost for the 2015 book is $55.  Checks should be made to WHS. After the pre-sale is concluded, students will still be able to purchase the yearbook through the Jostens website.

Attention Juniors: Sign up to take the PSAT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) in the guidance office. The cost is $15. The test will be given at WHS on October 15th. Limited tests available so register early. Deadline to sign up is September 22nd. See Mrs. Chladny with questions.


Are you interested in a career in the medical field?  Medical Explorers Post 998 Kick Off Meeting! Monday, September 22, 2014 @ 7pm, Lincoln Conference Room, 801 North Rutledge Building on SIU School of Medicine's campus, Springfield.  Students and parents welcomed!  For more information, contact Whitney Zahnd (wzahnd@siumed.edu or 217-545-2428)


The 2014 yearbooks have arrived.  Students who wish to purchase a copy need to see Mr. Gudwien. Extras are limited and will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.  The cost is $55.  Checks should be made to WHS.


Books purchased by seniors who have graduated may be picked up in Mr. Gudwien’s room.  These books will only be given to the graduate, a sibling, or a parent.  If the graduate would like to have someone else pick up his/her yearbook, please call the office to make arrangements.


Turn in Computer Usage/Handbook/Field Trip Form in to the office ASAP!


Lincoln Community High School's Annual College Night will be held October 16 from 6:00pm-7:30pm. This event is open to all high school students and their parents. The evening begins with a financial aid presentation followed by a college fair featuring over 35 college representatives and military recruiters. This is a great opportunity to gain valuable information in one location regarding the next step after high school. 


2014 Actuarial Career Fairs: Enjoy math? Like a challenge? If so, you have what it takes to be an actuary, a well-paid professional who uses math skills to solve business and social problems. Attend a career fair organized by the Actuarial Program at Illinois State University. These career fairs are open to both high school and college students. Any questions? Juniors and seniors interested in joining Scholastic Bowl this year must attend a mandatory meeting on September 24, 2014 at 7:45 or 3:30 in Room 208. Requirements for being a team member and a practice schedule will be determined at this meeting. If you cannot attend, please see Mr. Trimpe for alternate arrangements. Freshman and sophomores will meet at a later date.    


Congrats to Eric Gray on finishing 3rd place at the Conference tournament at Crane Creek with a score of 86. His teammates scores were Eli Reevis-91, Josh Gray-97, Austin Tuttle-96, Tucker Hirsch-100. JV plays Monday at Pasfield GC.


Volunteer Opportunities:


SportsCare is sponsoring the Women’s Biathlon on Sunday, September 21, 2014SportsCare is looking for volunteer students who will help with the parking for the event, monitoring the course, working drink stations, etc.  Volunteers will need to report for a volunteer meeting starting at 7:00 a.m. on the morning of the event inside Memorial SportsCare inside Kerasotes YMCA at 4550 W. Iles Ave. in Springfield, and bring the completed Volunteer Consent Form with you on the morning of the event.  Please see Mr. Martens if you are interested or have any other questions.


Sherman Area Chamber of Commerce – Sherman Homecoming:  For anyone needing community service hours, the Sherman Area Chamber of Commerce is organizing a Sherman Homecoming this year.  “There’s No Place Like Homecoming” will be held September 19-21 on North Peoria Road in Sherman on the East Side of the The Rail Golf Course.  There will be amusement rides, food vendors, craft vendors, concerts, kids’ activities and bands.  They are specifically looking for volunteers for their Kids Zone on Saturday, September 20, 2014, from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. and 1:00-5:00 p.m. and on Sunday, September 21, 2014, from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. and 1:00-4:00 p.m.  If anyone is interested, please see Mr. Martens.
