General Announcements:


JV & Varsity Volleyball Team:  please sign up in the office to officiate 6th grade volleyball games.  Games are at 5:00 PM and begin in January.  Please sign up and earn community service/leadership credit.


The Junior class will be hosting a Prom Dress Exchange on Saturday, January 29th from 10am – 2pm in the High School cafeteria.  Donations of gently worn prom dresses are needed.  Want to make some extra cash, sell your old dresses here as well.  Invite all of your out-of-town friends to come, shop and purchase their prom dress here!  For more information, contact Pam Kovacevich, 725-9170.


Twilight Bowling for Jr. High and High School students will be sponsored by the 2011 After Prom Committee on Sunday January 16th from 9:30 pm to 11:30pm (no school on Monday) at King Pin.  $15.00 each person for unlimited bowling and shoe rental.  Any questions please contact, Sandy Leka 414-1985.


The Williamsville FFA Alumni Prime Rib dinner is scheduled for March 12th from 4-7 PM. Prime Rib Dinner tickets will be available by Friday. Each FFA member needs to pick up a minimum of 10 tickets to sell. Don't forget: $50 to the FFA member who sells the most tickets.


Before & After School Tutoring will start again on Tuesday, January 18th.


For anyone needing community service hours, the United Cerebral Palsy organization is looking for volunteers to work their annual telethon at the Crowne Plaza in Springfield.  Students can volunteer to stuff envelopes.  Volunteers will work in two-hour shifts from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., 1:00-3:00 p.m., and 3:00-5:00 p.m.  If anyone is interested, please see Mr. Martens. 


Sherman Blood DriveSaturday, January 29 at St. John Vianney Church in Sherman from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM.


Boys’ Track Meeting - There will be a short, informational meeting for boys interested in WHS Track and Field on Tuesday, Jan. 18th in the cafeteria.  The meeting will take place immediately after school.


Softball meeting, Thursday, Jan. 20, after school in Miss Grebner's room - 3:25-3:45.

Attention Seniors:

  • Information is available in the guidance office on the Scottish Rite Scholarships. Applications can be accessed online at www.mastermason.com/assr-springfield.il  Deadline to apply is April 1, 2011. Over $65,000 will be awarded in scholarships.


  • Seniors planning to study Physical or Occupational Therapy should apply for the Illinois Elks Children's Care Corporation Scholarship Program. Students must have a B average or higher to apply. Deadline is March 18, 2011. Applications must be printed from iea-cc.info. Please come to guidance if you have questions.


  • 2011 General Assembly Scholarship applications are available. Both undergraduate & graduate level works are acceptable. Scholarships cover one year of tuition to any state university located in Illinois. Students must show proof of acceptance. Please see Mrs. Chladny if you have questions.


  • Sangamon County Community Foundation Scholarship information is available in the guidance office. SCCF offers numerous scholarship opportunities for graduating seniors as well as current college students. All scholarship applications are available online at www.sccf.us All deadlines are March 1, 2011.


  • Jim Byron Scholarship: Open to any senior Williamsville High School student who has been involved in community service and school activities. To apply please visit www.sccf.us This is scholarship is worth $1,000 and deadline to apply March 1, 2011. This is a great opportunity and is only open to Williamsville High School students.


  • Sangamon County Department of Community Resources has made applications for the 2011 Scholarships for Low-Income College Entries (both graduating seniors and adults) available. Specific criteria must be met to apply. Financial need must meet guidelines set up by the scholarship. Please ask Mrs. Chladny for an application or visit http://www.co.sangamon.il.us/Departments/resource.asp  All applications must be received by May 6, 2011.


  • 1st MidAmerica Credit Union is offering three $1,000 scholarships. Candidates must be a member of 1st MidAmerica with an account in good standing. Applications are available in the guidance office.  


  • Applications for the Sharon Miller Memorial Scholarship are available for senior students who will be majoring in education. This scholarship is also open to current college students majoring in education. Due date for the application is March 4, 2011.


Bowl for Kids' Sake 2011 will take place March 4, 5, 11, 12, & 18 at King Pin Lanes. To register, please call 753-1216. Look for the flyers posted around the school for more information.


This spring the Drama Program at Williamsville High School will be performing “The Outsiders,” based upon the novel by S. E. Hinton.  Auditions for this year’s play will be held on Tuesday, January 18, and Wednesday, January 19, in Mr. Martens’ room (Room 100).  Anyone interested in auditioning for the show needs to sign-up by 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 18.  The production will take place on Saturday, March 12, at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, March 13, at 2:00 p.m.  Please see Mr. Martens if you have any questions.


In addition to the cast for “The Outsiders,” we are also looking for responsible people for the following assignments:  Student Director, Stage Manager, Student Costumer(s), and Scenic Painter(s).  Anyone interested in any of these positions, please see Mr. Martens.  Anyone interested in helping with set construction and/or painting, please see Mr. Martens.


Attention high school students of all ages: Want a career in sports medicine? Find out more Saturday, March 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Decatur Memorial Hospital for an interactive hands-on clinic. The course costs $20 and includes breakfast and lunch. If interested or have questions please contact the DMH Sports Enhancement Center at 217-876-4975 or stop by the guidance office for a registration form. Deadline to sign up is March 14.
